Radnor Hills Hosts for Welsh Schools Caterers meeting
Radnor Hills hosted a meeting of the Welsh Local Authorities Catering Association (LACA) on Wednesday 18th March in Knighton Community Centre. During the meeting members of the Association who are responsible for school lunches across Wales were given a tour of the Radnor Hills bottling plant followed by lunch in Knighton.
The Welsh Assembly Government have laid down strict guidelines for food and drink suitable for service in Welsh schools, all drinks must be either Milk, Water, Fruit juice or a blend of at least 50% fruit juice and water, it is also recommended they do not contain added sugar, colours or preservatives. Since these guidelines were first published Radnor Hills has worked closely with schools to produce drinks which comply and which will also appeal to school children.
As part of this work Radnor Hills invited the members of LACA to hold their meeting at Radnor Hills and take a tour of the factory and bottling line to see the school approved drinks being produced. The tour included a visit to the boreholes from where water is extracted, an insight into blowing of PET bottles as well as the latest filling line including tunnel pasteurisation of PET bottles, allowing production of soft drinks with no preservatives.
Radnor Hills have recently launched a prize promotion in conjunction with its Aqua 50 range to support drinks in schools and also to promote the schools’ recycling initiatives. The company is supplying free recycle dumpbins for PET bottles to all participating schools and an on-pack promotion gives children a chance to win one of 5000 prizes including Ipods, Electric guitars, music books and earphones.
